PRODUCT DATA of AISI 302 |
Material | AISI 302 |
General Information | Higher carbon modification of Type 304 for higher strength on cold rolling. Type 302 is strengthened by cold working. If cold-worked Type 302 is subjected to temperatures above 480C, its room-temperature strength is reduced. |
Precautions | Type 302 should not be used for extended periods at temperatures of 400 to 900C and should not be cooled slowly from higher temperatures through this range. |
Effects of Space environment | The natural oxide layer is not repaired in vacuum when damaged. Cold welding might occur in contact to similar materials. |
Chemical Composition | 17-19Cr, 8-10Ni, <2Mn, <0.15C, rem Fe |

SPECIAL RECOMMENDATIONS |
---|
Special Recommendations | Type 302 should not be used for extended periods at temperatures of 400 to 900C and should not be cooled slowly from higher temperatures through this range. Prolonged exposure of the nonstabilized grades to temperatures between 400 and 900C makes them susceptible to intergranular corrosion. This alloy is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but becomes magnetic on cold work. |
